Paul Schrader, one of the world's most famous screenplay writers, will
deliver a Masterclass on Screenwriting and two films
written by him, 'Mishima' and Martin Scorsese's 'Taxi Driver' will be
screened at the festival.
A major highlight of the event will be the unveiling of the scale
model of the Osianama, Osian's flagship cultural complex.
Osianama, which will open in Mumbai in mid-2009 , will also house two
screens apart from a large debating house for
discussions on cinema.
The Ten Comm andments (World Cinema) will celebrate the significance
of the number 10 on the occasion of the festival's 10th
anniversary. The films explore the manner in which cinema has
navigated the narrow alley between censorship, transgression
and pleasure throughout its history.
As a part of the tenth anniversary , the Sprintboard section will pay
a tribute to the festival since its inception in 1999 and will
screen films from earlier editions of the festival selected by the
festival's founder Aruna Vasudev.
In a New Focus, the festival will for the first time have Short
Fiction Films of less than 40 minutes duration from Asian & Arab
countries. Several other sections are eclectic in nature. Cross
Cultural Encounters has become a steady feature of the festival.
Filmcraft (Screenplay) will show a clutch of films that have been
chosen with a view to opening a debate on whether the
screenplay is a 'necessary evil'.
The fifth edition of Talent Campus India has been organized in
collaboration with Berlinale Talent Campus, Berlin International
Film Festival and Max Mueller Bhavan and will have young filmmakers
from India, neighbouring South Asian countries and Iran.
Thirty-one young aspiring filmmakers will be invited to New Delhi for
a workshop from 13-18 July, 2008 to interact with
renowned filmmakers and film professionals from India and abroad.
Osian's-Cinefan will also pay tribute to Nobel laureate Naguib
Mahfouz, Alain Robbe-Grillet , renowned cinema personalities ,
Taiwanese director Edward Yang and Indonesian actress Christine Hakim
who is also President of the Asian-Arab jury.
